1.航次租船(voyage charter)
航次租船主要包括單航次租船(signle trip charter)、往返航次租船(return trip charter)、連續單航次或者往返航次租船(consecutive signle voyage charter or continueous reurn voyage charter)。實踐中存在一種包運合同coa(contract of affreightment)運輸，在形式上于連續單航次類似，是指將協定的貨物包運至指定港口。
2.定期租船(time charter)
實踐中又出現一種租船方式及航次期租(tct,time charter on trip basis or time charter-trip)，它是定期租船的一種，兼具航次租船的特點。
